Bored of your STAR’s default UI?? Annoyed that STAR doesn’t support themes by default? Want to have some extra cool widgets and UI like the ones shown below??

This is the place where I came to know about thewonders that can be done with star: DFG STARMODS

If the answer to these questions are yes, then you are at a right place. I am providing complete tutorial on how to do this. Just read on and eventually you will be able to do it.

Flashing the phone

Here is a detailed procedure for Flashing your Samsung STAR..

WARNING: Flashing of your phone is completely your responsibility. If you don’t follow the procedure correctly then you may damage your phone. So becompletely certain as to what you are doing before you flash your phone.If you follow the steps carefully then there will not be any problem faced by you at all. In case of any doubts, get it clarified!!

Most of the Asian firmwares of STAR doesn’t support Easy JAVA and themes that’s why you must flash the phone with a Europian firmware as they support easy java and we can modify it easily.

Following is a list of two of the best firmwares and their download links. If you need any other older firmwares then request it in the comments

Following is a step by step guide to flash your phone:
Softwares required:

1. Multiloader v5.56 and above
2. Fimware files
3. Samsung s5230/s5233/s5230W/s5233W USb Drivers

Procedure:

=> Install your phone’s USb Drivers in your PC

=> Switch of the phone and Remove your phone’s MMC and SIM

=> Put the battery back in and press and hold ‘volume down button’+ ‘call drop button’+'camera shutter key’ to put your phone in Download mode. The phone looks like this in Download mode

=> Then connect the phone to PC

=> Extract the firmware files in a folder and then you can see the following in your firmware folder

=> Open Mulitloader, select BRCM2133 and check the boxes ‘Boot Change’,'FUll Download’ and
‘Master ROM’

=> In Boot tab provide pathfor Bootfiles folder

=> In Amss tab provide path for apps_compressed.bin

=> In FactoryFs tab provide the path for FFS file

=> In Rsrc1 tab provide path for .rc1 file

=> In rsrc2 tabprovide path for .rc2 file

=> Have a check whether you did everything as mentioned above and your multiloader looks as shown below

=> Now click on Port Search

=> You must get a port as Ready-[s5230]

=> Once you get it, click on ‘Full Download’ and wait for the files to be downloaded.

=> Once the process is complete, unplug the phone from PC and switch off and then switch on the phone

=> You’re done, your phone is running a new firmware now

Patching the phone

Now, after flashing your phone, the nest step is to patch your phone as this step is very
necessary to apply mods to your phone so as to overcome many of its limitations.

Here is a guide to patch yourphone once you are done flashing.

Requirements:

=> Multiloader
=> rc2 andapps_patch.bin specific to the firmware. Download it from the links below
for MMGJK2 :  Download here
for WXEIL1   : Download here

Procedure:

=> Switch off the phone and start it by pressing volume down button + call drop button + camera shutter key. This will put the phone in download mode. Check flashing tutorial for more info and screenshot of download mode.

=> Once you are in the download mode, connect your phone to the PC and make sure that PC Studio is disabled

=> Download the apps_patch.bin and rc2 in a zipped format from the above links and extract it on your PC

=> Now open MultiLoader and select LSI6410

=> In apps folder provide path of apps_patch.bin file

=> In Rsrc2 tab provide path of the rc2 file that you just downloaded

=> Click on port search and find the port as Ready-[s5230]

=> Once you get it, You will see that automatically BRCM2133 is selected. Again select LSI6410. Do not continue with BRCM2133. Always cross check.

=> Match everything with the screenshot below

=> Once it is done, Click on download.

=> When the download finishes the phone will restart and a new boot screen will be seen.If you get new image while booting then your Boot Screen is successfully installed and the phone is patched.

Installing MODS

Now as we are done with flashing and patching of the phone, now is the time for installing the mods. What basically is a mod? Well, Mod is a collection of flash files in Shockwave Flash (.swf) format that change the UI of the phone.

follow the steps as mentioned below.

=> Keep in mind that you must flash your phone and patch it before you install mods. For flashing and patching tutorial, check the previous tutorials from the menu.

=> Connect your phone to PC in Media Player mode.

=> MMGJK2 users, make a folder named Res inside the Phone Memory. WXEIL1 users, make a folder named Res inside Memory Card

=> If you have MMGJK2 firmware, then inside Res make a folder named Themes. If you have WXEIL1, then skip this step.

=> MMGJK2 users, place all thefiles andfolders in the downloaded theme in Res/Themes and WXEIL1 users, place all the files and folders of the downloaded folder inside Res.

=> For proper functioning of the phone, make sure that you have gadget.swf, menu.swf and myfiles.swf in your Res/Themes and Res folder for MMGJK2 and WXEIL1 respectively.

=> After placing the files restart the phone and while the phone is booting, press and hold the lock hard key for around 2 seconds and you will then enter in the patch menu. In this screen, up down navigation is done using Volume up down key, selection is done using camera shutter key and changes are saved using lock hard key. You can go on next page using back button and previous page using call button.

=> Once you are in patch menu, you will have 4 options:
Patch menu
Info
Tools
Restart Phone

=> Of these options, select patch menu by pressing camera shutter key and then you will enter in a patch menu with lot of options. For now, navigate down and go on Change swf v1 patch and select it using camera shutter key.

=> After selecting, save the changes using lock hard key. You will be notified that the changes are saed by a text ‘SAVED’ at the bottom of the screen.

=> Now go back to previous screen using call key and here you have those 4 options as I stated above.

=> Now, navigate down to last option i.e. Restart Phone and press camera shutter key.

=> Let the phone restart and Whoa!!, You have a completely new look to your samsung star 

CHANGING THE DEFAULT LOCK SCREEN OF STAR:

By following the steps below, you can change the default lock screen of Samsung STAR:

=> Download the lockscreen from mod selection page by going to the menu bar.

=> Rename the files as PhoneLock.swf

=> Connect your phone to Pc in Media Player mode and make a folder named System in Res folder.

=> Place the file PhoneLock.swf inside the System folder.

=> Now restart the phone and while booting press and hold lock hard key and go to patch menu as explained above.

=> Goto patch menu and look for NewPhoneLock.. When you find it, select it using camera shutter key and thenpress lock key to save.

=> Then go back to the main screen where you get those 4 options and restart the phone.

=> Now you will see a new lock screen whenever you press the lock hard key
